Background:ToevaluatetheexpressionanddifferentialdiagnosticsignificanceofCK19,TG,Ki67andgalectin-3in
papillarythyroidcarcinoma(PTC)(metastaticandnonmetastatic),follicularadenomaandnodulargoiterinpatients
fromthenortheasternpartofChina.
Methods:441PTCspecimensand151otherbenignthyroidspecimens(97casesofnodulargoiter,54casesof
nonmalignantfollicularadenoma)werecollected.ImmunohistochemistryforCK19,TG,Ki67andgalectin-3was
performed.
Results:CK19,TG,Ki67andgalectin-3expressionwas96.37%(425/441),82.77%(365/441),and40.59%(179/441),
96.82%(427/441),respectively,forthePTCgroupandtheexpressionofthesemarkersinthebenignthyroidlesions
groupwas25.83%(39/151),79.47%(120/151),and37.09%(56/151),50.99%(77/151),respectively.Theexpressionof
CK19andgalectin-3inPTCwasmuchhigherthanthatinthenonmalignantgroup(p&0.05).However,the
expressionofTG,Ki67didnotdifferamongthesetwogroups(p&0.05).ThediagnosticefficiencyofCK19and
galectin-3forPTCwas96.37%(537/592)and84.63%(501/592).CK19andgalectin-3expressionrateinPTCwas
higherthanthatinbenigndiseasecases.
Conclusions:ThediagnosticefficiencyofCK19forPTCwasslightlybetterthangalectin-3.Theutilizationofthese
markerscombinedwithmorphologicevaluationmaybehelpfulinthedifferentialdiagnosisofpapillarythyroid
carcinomainthenortheasternregionofChina.
